Day 5: A Scavenger Hunt and Messy Play

Throughout the summer, we had weekly playground meetups with a few homeschool families in our area. We had a chance to see the same families each week and they kids looked forward  to seeing their friends. With the cold weather coming soon, the group will be moving indoors for skating, but we had one last outdoor meetup today for a nature scavenger hunt. One of the moms brought laminated lists for the kids to use and we set off on a hour long walk with the kids laughing and playing together and searching for list items.

After afternoon quiet time, Kaiana found several things to keep her busy. First there was coloring and the marker tower she was proud of.

Day 5: A Scavenger Hunt and Messy Play

She played with playdough for a while and we discussed 2D and 3D shapes, then she asked if she could have some sand to play with. I had to think about how I was going to work this, and I knew it would probably end up messy. But after I scooped sand from the outside sandbox, they both spent quite a bit of time squishing it between their fingers and playing with their toys in it.

They saved the messiest part for the end – dumping the water in! They had fun and honestly clean up was under 10 minutes. I’ve spent longer cleaning up from paper crafts!
